NEW PRESCRIBING GUIDANCE FROM THE RCVS

From 1 September 2023 the RCVS guidelines for prescribing medication are changing.  Some medications will require a physical examination before they can be dispensed.

This guidance applies to all veterinary practices in the UK.

WHO IS THE RCVS?

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons regulates and upholds the ethical and clinical standards of veterinary surgeons and nurses in the UK.   All veterinary surgeons wishing to practise in the UK must be registered members.  As our governing body we are required to follow their guidance.

WHY IS IT CHANGING?

The purpose of this new guidance is to encourage the responsible use of certain medications and to prevent the over prescribing of certain medications such as antibiotics, antiparasitics and controlled drugs.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME?

Certain medications may require more visits to the vet than in the past.  Your pet may need to be seen by one of our vets before we can dispense the appropriate medication.
